Quantitative Comparisons

In this section there are two quantities. You need to determine the relation between the two quantities.

1. k< 9 and w > 9

Quantity 1: wk

Quantity 2: kw

1. Both the quantities are equal
2. 1 is less than 2
3. 2 is less than 1
4. No relation

Explanation: kw = wk, therefore (a) is the right answer.

2. J = the number of hours in 4 days

V = the number of seconds in 3 minutes

1. V is greater than J
2. J is greater than V
3. There is no relation between J and B
4. J = V

Explanation: J = 3 x 24 =72

V = 4 x 60 = 240

Therefore J is not equal to B.

3. N = 2/z + 2/b = 2/6

H = 2/z2 + 2/b2 = 7/9

1. N and H are equal
2. N > H
3. N < H
4. Relation not defined

Explanation: R = 2/z2 + 2/b2 = 7/9 = 1/z2 + 1/b2 = 7/18

E = 2/z + 2/b = 2/6 = 1/z + 1/b = 1/6

E2 = 1/z2 + 2/zb + 1/b2 = 1/36

E2 = 1/z2 + 1/b2 =1/36 - 2/zb

Therefore the relation between N and H is not defined.

4. K + 4R >10

Quantity 1: 3K + 6R Quantity 2: 25

1. Quantity 2 is greater than quantity 1
2. Both the quantities are equal
3. Quantity 1 is greater than quantity 2
4. The relationship between the two quantities cannot be determined

Explanation:  K + 5R > 10

hence, K > 10 - 3R

Multiplying by 5 to both sides of inequality,

5K > 50-25R

hence, 5K + 25R > 50

Now K1: 5K + 25R

K2: 25

Hence, there is no relation between these two.

5. Quantity 1: 6/137

Quantity 2: 0.36/7

1. Quantity 1 is greater than Quantity 2
2. Quantity 2 is greater than Quantity 1
3. There is no relation between both the quantities
4. Both quantities are equal

Explanation: 6/137= 0.043; 0.36/7= 0.051

6. 10 > s < 20, while 31 > r < 86

Quantity 1: s

Quantity 2: r

1. Value of quantity 2 is more than value of quantity 1
2. Value of quantity 1 is more than value of quantity 2
3. Values of both quantity 1 and 2 are equal
4. There is no relation between the 2 quantities

Explanation: As quantity 1 can be any number between 10 and 20, and quantity 2 can be any number between 31 and 86, option (d) is the right answer

7. d is a negative integer

5/10 = h/k

Quantity 1: d/e

Quantity 2: 2

1. Quantity 2 is less than quantity 1
2. Quantity 1 is less than quantity 2
3. Quantity 1 is equal to quantity 2
4. No relation

Explanation: 5/10 = d/e

˝ = d/e

Therefore there is no relation between 1 and 2

8. q< 4 and p > 3

Quantity 1: pq

Quantity 2: qp

1. Both the quantities are equal
2. 1 is less than 3
3. 3 is less than 1
4. No relation

Explanation: qp = pq, therefore (a) is the right answer.

9. Column u = 5b + 6 Column k = 3 Assume that quantity 1 is (u) and quantity 2 is 15. Determine whether

1. Quantity 1 is greater than Quantity 2
2. Quantity 2 is greater than Quantity 1
3. Both the quantities are equal
4. The relationship between the two quantities cannot be determined

Explanation:  As quantity 1 = u = 5b + 6

= 5 (5) + 6

= 25 + 6

= 31 = quantity 2.

Therefore the right answer is (d)

10. T = 0.15

V = 0.13 / 5

1. T is greater than V
2. V is greater than T
3. T is equal to V
4. There is no relation between T and V

Explanation: V = 0.13 / 5 = 0.026, whereas T = 0.15.

Therefore T is greater than V.
