Verbal Section : Reading Comprehension

Read the comprehension and answer the following question:

A lot of researchers agree that dolphins are exceptionally social aquatic animals and truly depend on this communication for eating, reproducing and protecting themselves and their pods.

Usually, dolphins survive and move in groups ranging from 2 to 50 dolphins. But researchers have found dolphin pods as big as numerous hundred members. These groups are in fact called as schools or herds. In few cases, these bigger groups have been too identified to have more than two species that seem to relate well with each other. The creatures that generally relate in this multi-species group are known as Spotted Dolphins or Spinner. As the eating habits of these two special species are somewhat opposite, they are able to move jointly without competing for foodstuff.

Dolphins usually have close body contact with other species of dolphins through petting, rubbing, and even sometimes hitting each other. Dolphins usually swim very close to each other, and if you observe carefully you will notice that they usually rest their fins on their partners. Researchers believe these actions in reality shows a close relationship. Dolphins have been seen chafing their pectoral fins and it look like a handshake. Another way that researchers recognize social relations between dolphins is by their actions. When they are violent, dolphins usually tries to move towards straight or in a perpendicular line. When the approach is non-violent, a dolphin generally comes from back or in a slanted angle. We all love dolphin as we feel that they are more interactive compared to any other creature and we tend to expect that dolphins should be interactive, social and involved only with their own kind. Dolphins love to communicate with humans. In the wild, dolphins are very inquiring and they will usually connect themselves in contact with many people if they get a chance. In confinement, dolphins are extremely emotional with the people they generally interrelate with like their researchers or trainers. The growing brains of dolphins, their developed capabilities to converse together with their requirement for social communication make dolphins an exclusive animal in the natural world. If you step out of your house and ask any people, whether Dolphin’s are intelligent creature or not, 9 of 10 would say yes to this. But if you ask the same question to some scientist you may end up into a debate. Many modern scientists in today’s world have denied taking a compact decision on the intellect level of the dolphin species, and even though many people will come to the conclusion that dolphins may seem to be sharp creatures, but it’s yet not proved. The critical problem which the scientists usually face is they want to know the actual definition of intelligence and how to test on animals like Dolphin’s. There are number of public or private groups that work determinedly for the preservation of different species of dolphins. While financial support for the protection of dolphins is given by contributions, there are many support growing activities all through the United States each and every year. Few management funding is also accessible.

In many parts of the world this beautiful species are hunted for their bones, meat and blubber. Although saleable whaling is illegal since the year 1987, but still many hunters hunt dolphins for their own profitable business. Dolphins are also exposed to pollution, fishing nets and other circumstances and conditions which can be controlled only by humans. In the United States of America, it is lawful to hunt dolphins that are snooping with a fisherman's hunt, and permission are given to this fisherman if this dolphin’s comes in their way they have a right to kill them. Many Volunteers of different organization work really hard to preserve this beautiful species. These volunteers also work on the land, spreading awareness among public.
