Verbal Section : Reading Comprehension

Read the comprehension and answer the following questions:

The hitch of child labor continues to be a challenge for the country. Government has been taking different positive measures to deal with this major problem. On the other hand, considering the amount and extent of the crisis and that it is basically a socio-economic difficulty inextricably related to scarcity and illiteracy, it needs intensive efforts from all parts of the society to resolve this major problem.

There is no doubt that child labor is evil which should be eradicated at the earliest. The occurrence of child labor reflects very poorly on the world and it is next to impossible to stop this evil. But in a civilization where a lot of households may have to experience the pangs of famine if the children are reserved from work, as the famous saying goes beggars can’t be choosers. These poor people have to send their children to job, even if the future of these innocent kids are ruined, as that is the only option open for them to live on this cruel world. Therefore, except the socio-economic class of the poor families is enhanced, all the countries have to exist with child labor.

Most of the work done by children does not come under child labor; therefore, this work should not be targeted for elimination. Children’s or adults’ contribution in work that does not influence their health and individual growth or hamper with their schooling, is usually considered as being something optimistic. This includes activities such as helping their parents in doing the work of the house, earning for the family after completing their class or on weekends or during school holidays, etc.. These types of activities add to children’s growth and to the benefit of their families; they give them with the required talent and knowledge, and help them to be creative members of civilization during their grown-up life. Child labor is not a simple issue to determine; while it seems easy to directly withdraw reserves and collaboration with industries and factories that take up child labor it may do more destruction than good. Many of these kids are from very underprivileged families and work to support their family and their education. Depriving them of these earnings may lead to some children looking for different, lower paid job, and it may even lead to prostitution in a few cases.
