Given below are a few important questions on Multiple Choices with answers and explanation. Select the right answer from the following questions.

Question 231

From the given equation find the value of k, if p = 18
(k + 8) (p + 4)  = 62

1. – 57/11
2. 15/14
3. 19
4. 3/4
5. 15

Put the value of m in the equation
(k+ 8) (18 + 4) = 62
18k + 4k + 144 + 32 = 62
22k = 62 – 176
22k = - 114/22
k = - 57/11. Therefore the correct option is (a)

Question 232

The price of 3 saris and 5 shirts is Rs.1800 with the same amount one can buy 2 saris and 7 shirts if one wants to buy 14 shirts, how much shall you have to pay.

1. 1578
2. 2290.4
3. 1789
4. 3245
5. 7894

Explanation: Let the price of saris and the shirt be Rs x and Rs y respectively.
3x + 5y = 1800....Equation (1)
2x + 7y = 1800....Equation (2)
Now you are required to multiply equation (1) by 2 and Equation (2) by 3
That comes to:
6x + 10y = 3600
6x + 21y = 5400

-          11y = - 1800
-          11y = 1800
-          Y = 163.6

Now put the value of y in any equation to find the value of x
3x + 5 * 163.6 = 1800
3x = 1800- 818
X = 327.3
Therefore 14 shirts will be equal to = 14 * y
= 2290.4. Therefore the correct option is (b)

Question 234

If a - b = 3 and a2 + b2 = 29, find the value of ab

1.    18
2.    25
3.    19
4.    10
5.    17

Explanation: We have to use the formula (a- b)2 = a 2 – 2ab + b2
2ab = (a2 + b2) – (a – b)2
2ab = 29 – (3)2
2ab = 20
ab = 20/2
ab = 10. Therefore the correct option is (d)

Question 235

Simplify the following equation

(469 + 174)2 – (469 – 174)2

(469 * 174)

1. 4
2. 8
3. 3
4. 9
5. 10

Explanation:

= (469 + 174)2 – (469 – 174)2

(469 * 174)

=  (a + b)2 – (a – b)2

ab

= (a2 + 2ab + b2) – (a2 - 2ab + b2)

ab

= 2ab + 2ab

ab

= 4ab/ab
= 4 where a = 469 b = 174. Therefore the correct option is (a)

Question 236

If y(a) = |a| + 20 for which of the following values of a does y(a) = y(-a)?

1. hp
2. 2p
3. All real numbers
4. 89p
5. 87h

Explanation: To start with the equation the statement y(a) = y(-a) when y = -20 and 20. A simple number like zero works best. y(0) = ?0? + 20 = 20. You can see that y(0) = y(-0) so zero must be the part of correct answer, therefore (c) is the correct option.

Question 237

If p(e) =2e2+ 2 then what is the value of p(e + 5)?

1. 23
2. 9/10
3. 5p
4. 9p
5. 20/3

Explanation: Since there are variables in the answer choices you should insert in. Try e = 3. We are trying to find p(3 + 5) = p(8) = 2(8)2 + 2 which is 100 our target number. Now insert 3 in for e in the answer choices to see which answer choice goes with the target its (e)

Question 238

If b – 7 = 7 (b– b), then what is the value of b?

1. 0.33
2. 45.123
3. 85
4. 32
5. 0.12

Explanation: The fraction t/y is an equal to y/t. To find the numerical value of t/y just turn the numerical value of y/t; this comes to 0.735. Your calculation will tell you that 1/0.735 = 0.33.

Question 239

If r varies directly as n and r/m = 10, then what is the value of r when m = 2.2?

1. 124
2. 0.41
3. 3/4
4. 74
5. 11.00

Explanation: Direct variation between two quantities means that they always have the same quotient. In this case, it means that r/m must always be equal to 10. To find the value of r when m = 2.2, set up the equation r/2.2 = 10 and solve for r. You will find that r = 11

Question 240

Where defined, {w2 – 3/3} {8/2w+ 3} =

1. 7m
2. 56
3. w – 2
4. m+ 9
5. 4m2 /8

Explanation: You can just factor this one and then cancel

{w2 – 3/3} {8/2w + 3} = {(w + 2) (w – 2)/3} {2 * 3/2(w + 2)} = w - 2
