# Quantitative Comparisons

There are two diverse quantities given below. You have to find out the relation between these two quantities.

Question 31

Quantity A: (1/40)1/2 + (1/1099)1/2
Quantity B: (1/54) + (1/45)

1. Quantity A is smaller than Quantity B
2. There is no relation between both the quantities
3. Quantity B is smaller than Quantity A
4. Quantity A = Quantity B

Explanation: Quantity A is the square root followed by division, where as quantity B is just division, hence no relation.

Question 32

e + f = 20
Quantity 1: 20
Quantity 2: e - f

1. Quantity 1 is equal to Quantity 2
2. Quantity 2 is greater than Quantity 1
3. No relation
4. Quantity 1 is greater than Quantity 2

Explanation: As quantity 1 is 20 = e + f and quantity 2 is e - f, option (c) is the right answer

Question 33

e is a negative integer
5/20 = e/p
Quantity 1: e/p
Quantity 2: 2

1. Quantity 2 is less than Quantity 1
2. Quantity 1 is less than Quantity 2
3. Quantity 1 is equal to Quantity 2
4. No relation

Explanation: 5/20 = e/p
1/2 = e/p
Therefore there is no relation between 1 and 2

Question 34

Quantity 1: (-5)7
Quantity 2: (-5)3

1. Quantity 1 is greater than Quantity 2
2. Quantity 2 is greater than Quantity 1
3. Both the quantities are equal
4. There is no relationship between the two quantities

Explanation: (-5)7 = -35 while (-5)3= -125, therefore (a) is the right answer

Quantity 1: 7/138
Quantity 2: 0.35/9

1. Quantity 1 is greater than Quantity 2
2. Quantity 2 is greater than Quantity 1
3. There is no relation between both the quantities
4. Both the quantities are equal

Explanation: 7/138 = 0.05; 0.35/9 = 0.38

Question 36

2/8 = r/b
Quantity 1: b
Quantity 2: 5

1. Quantity 2 is greater than quantity 1

Explanation: 2/8 = r/b
2b/8 = r
b/4 = r
Therefore (d) is the right answer

Question 37

J = {(a + 5)/6} - {(a + 1)/9}
K = (a + 2)/4

1. K is greater than J
2. J is greater than K
3. Both J and K are equal
4. There is no relationship between J and K

Explanation: Let x = 1
J = {(1 + 5)/6} - {(1 + 1)/9} = 1-(2/9) = (9 - 2)/9 = 7/9
K = (1 + 2)/4 = 3/4
Therefore J is not equal to D

Question 38

U = (x-2)(x)(x+2)
V = (x)(x)(x)(x)

1. U is equal than V
2. U is greater than V
3. There is no relation between Q and U
4. V is greater than U

Explanation: Let x = 1
U = (1 - 2)(1)(1 + 2) = (-1)(1)(3) = -3
V = (1)(1)(1)(1) = 1
Therefore (c) is the right answer

Question 39

P= (2 x 5 x 10)/(1600)1/2
W = (4 x 5 x 16)/(32 x 50)1/2

1. P is greater than W
2. P is equal to W
3. W is greater than P
4. No relationship between W and P

Explanation: P = (2 x 5 x 10)/(1600)1/2 = 100/32 = 2.5
W = (4 x 5 x 16)/(32 x 50)1/2 = 320/32 = 2.5

Question 40

In a right angled triangle DEF,

1 = DE = EF
2 = DF

1. 1 is equal to 2
2. 2 is greater than 1
3. 1 is greater than 2
4. There is no relation between 1 and 2

Explanation: As this is a right angled equilateral triangle, we apply the Pythagoras theorem.
Let DE = x, EF = y and DF = c
According to the Pythagoras theorem, x2 + y2 = c2
As the square of the third side is the sum of the squares of the other two sides, option (b) is the right answer.
